Slovak Republic

Country Status

Slovak Republic is currently CLOSED to adoptions by US citizens.

Slovak Republic ratified the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption at the end of 2001.  Because of this action, adoptions have ceased between countries that have not yet implemented the Convention.  (The United States is in the process of implementing the Convention.)

May 2004

Slovak Republic became a party to the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoptions late in 2001.  International adoptions of Slovakian children are now only possible for parents residing in Slovak Republic or countries that are party to the Convention.  Adoption by parents residing in non-member countries is no longer possible.
